OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: Big seas will be big problems for everyone who thinks the last weekend before Christmas is the right time to fish or crab the ocean. Today's forecast is for 11-foot swells, followed Saturday by 17-foot swells before things calm a bit to 15-foot swells by Monday. That will keep everyone inside bays to crab or fish.

The ocean crabbing season is open, and Dungeness catches off bay mouths should be very good when weather...

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: Hazardous seas and bad winds are forecast through tonight and things won't get much better this weekend, with 15-knot winds and 7-foot swells predicted for Saturday. Winds up to 15 knots and 5-foot swells are forecast for Sunday and that could tempt some locals to jig for rockfish in the early morning but not good enough to plan a coast trip from the valley.

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: After a week that has seen small-craft advisories and wind warnings, the ocean will start getting in better shape, but it's still not very enticing. Saturday has a forecast of 10-knot winds and 7-foot swells to go along with the rain, and Sunday's forecast doesn't look much different.

The South Coast halibut fishery is closed until spring. Ocean salmon fishing is closed as well, except off the Elk and Sixes mouths, but...

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: A hazardous seas warning and small-craft advisory are in effect today, and ocean conditions aren't forecast to get much better through the weekend. Saturday will bring 15-knot winds and 7-foot swells, followed Sunday by 20-knot winds and swells growing to 11 feet. Not a good weekend for bottomfishing or clamming, because big swells also bring sneaker waves that make digging on the sand hazardous. Besides, there are no minus...

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: Weekend forecasts call for 15-knot winds and seas ranging from 4 to 8 feet, so those glassy ocean conditions that led to great fishing for chinook off Brookings all week are disappearing. A few nighttime minus tides await clammers next week, but that will mean digging in darkness, and that's never recommended for beach activity. Still, daytime clammers will be working Clatsop County beaches as well as the sands around...

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: Weekend forecasts call for 15-knot winds and seas ranging from 3 to 6 feet, so expect most ocean fishing to be in the morning before the afternoon winds kick up. Some decent morning low tides will come next week, as well as some evening minus tides for clammers working Clatsop County beaches as well as the sands around Charleston in Coos Bay.

Anglers can now venture past the 30-fathom line for bottomfishing, but few will.....

COASTWIDE: Weekend forecasts call for small-craft and high-winds through this morning, then 5-knot winds and subsiding seas later today. Decent weekend weather should provide good opportunities out of South Coast ports.

Beginning Monday, anglers can venture past the 30-fathom line for bottomfishing. Near-shore jigging should be very good for lingcod and black rockfish. The marine aggregate limit in Oregon is seven rockfish a day.

OCEAN OUTLOOK

COASTWIDE: Weekend forecasts call for 5-knot winds and pretty calm seas through Sunday, and that should bode well for bottomfishers heading after black rockfish or the last of the halibut quota for the South Coast.
