Madi Christensen’s monster night paved the way for St. Mary’s in a 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24 Southern Cascade League volleyball victory over visiting Lakeview Thursday.

The senior middle hitter posted 18 kills and seven aces and was 19-for-21 from the service line.

With Lakeview (2-7, 1-1 SCL) up 6-1 In the second set, Christensen served nine straight points — five aces — to give the Crusaders (4-8, 2-0 SCL) the lead for good.

Crusaders senior setter Ashley Rietmann orchestrated the offense with 32 assists and was 17-for-19 serving.

Senior libero MacKenzie Addington had 16 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Hallie Shean added eight kills for the Crusaders. Aessa Catt had five kills and was 17 of 18 serving.

ROSEBURG 3, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Roseburg, North Medford started fast but SWC-leader Roseburg rallied for the sweep, 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.

Active defense helped the Black Tornado (5-9, 2-3 SWC) to a 22-15 advantage in the opening set, but the Indians (8-1, 6-0 SWC) finished it off with a 10-0 run.

Kiley Pauck had nine kills, Ashley Ripplinger five kills and Anna Lorenz 12 digs for the Black Tornado.

GRANTS PASS 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 0: At Grants Pass, Grants Pass churned out a 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 victory.

The Panthers dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the Southwest Conference.

Grants Pass (12-4, 4-1 SWC) was led by Elliott Cook’s 10 kills and three blocks. Haley Dougherty racked up 18 digs and McKenna Musser 19 assists, nine digs and three aces.

ASHLAND 3, SPRINGFIELD 0: At Springfield, Rosie Dean had eight of Ashland's 19 aces as the Grizzlies swept the Midwestern League match, 25-10, 25-16, 25-16.

Alex Crane had 12 kills and Myla Norvell and Gabbi Kola four aces apiece for Ashland (6-3, 5-2 MWL), which earned its fourth straight league win.

HIDDEN VALLEY 3, PHOENIX 0: At Murphy, Phoenix had trouble getting into its offensive flow and Hidden Valley took advantage, 25-5, 25-11, 25-15.

The Pirates’ Sophia Tringolo went 10-for-10 from the service line to go with five digs. Kassidy Calhoun added five digs and Lindsay Burns five blocks for the Pirates (4-7, 1-2 Skyline).

ROGUE RIVER 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2: At Cave Junction, after dropping the opening two sets, Rogue River rallied to best Illinois Valley, 15-25, 29-31, 25-20, 25-15, 15-11.

Kobie Gibson had eight kills, Morgan McKown seven kills and two blocks and Heather Myer six aces for the Chieftains.

Rogue River's Courtney Sakraida tallied 10 assists and Destiny Rangel five digs.

Boys soccer

PHOENIX 3, NORTH VALLEY 1: At Merlin, Rosendo Juarez-Flores netted a pair of goals and assisted another for Phoenix.

Juarez-Flores scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute and sent another past the goalkeeper two minutes later on an assist from Luis Ascension.

Kassam Akil tallied on Juarez-Flores’ pass in the 64th minute for the Pirates (3-2, 2-0 Skyline).

The Knights (2-2-2, 0-1-1 Skyline) avoided a shutout when Ulises Hernandez scored with six minutes left to play.

Girls soccer

NORTH EUGENE 6, EAGLE POINT 0: At Eugene, Eagle Point wasn’t able to solve North Eugene’s defense as both squads opened Midwestern League play.

The Eagles dropped to 2-4 overall.

NORTH VALLEY 5, PHOENIX 0: At Talent, North Valley tallied all of its goals in the first half as Phoenix fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the Skyline Conference at Colver Field.
