Grants Pass edged South Medford for the team title in five-school boys golf tournament to open high school play Monday at Rogue Valley Country Club.

Each school was divided into three, two-man teams. The front nine was best-ball play, the back nine a scramble.

Grant Pass, led by a 69 from Jackson Bartow and Andrew Jaroslow, shot 227. South Medford got a 69 from Reese Fisher and Riggs Loftin and scored 235, two ahead of Cascade Christian.

MARSHFIELD INVITATIONAL: At Bandon, Kaydn Kimbrough carded an 86 to help Ashland take seventh of 17 teams at Bandon Dunes.

Phoenix’s team was incomplete. The Pirates’ Camden Chose shot 90.

Capital High School of Olympia, Washington, won with a team score of 323. Wilson’s Atlas Asaro was medalist with an even-par 72.

ST. MARY’S 7, GLIDE 2: St. Mary’s Brandon Letendre pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 en route to a season-opening victory over Glide at St. Mary’s High.

Letendre, who allowed one earned run and two walks, was the beneficiary of Bryce Bramscher’s two-run double which capped a three-run first inning by the Crusaders (1-0). Bramscher also plated Calder Pruhliere in the sixth inning on a suicide squeeze, and Joe Johnson went 2-for-3 for the Crusaders.

HIDDEN VALLEY 5, ST. MARY’S 2: St. Mary’s Eve Von Strahl held off Hidden Valley’s Claire Wood but it was the lone singles match the Crusaders would claim while dropping the nonleague match St. Mary’s High.

Strahl topped Wood, 6-4, 7-6, for the Crusaders, who won just one doubles match as well. St. Mary’s Szu-Yin Fang and Ashley Hamilton topped Miranda Schermerhorn and Caitlyn Kelly, 6-2, 6-1.
