CENTRAL POINT — Eagle Point sprinter Anthony Gray and Jeremiah Sherry Newby of Ashland each captured three individual events in a Midwestern League three-way track and field meet Tuesday, but host Crater won both team titles.

The Comet boys edged Ashland 59-52, while Eagle Point finished third (34).

In girls, Crater put up a winning total of 67. Ashland was second (50) and Eagle Point third (24).

Gray won the 100 meters in a hand-timed 10.96 seconds and recorded 22.75 in the 200. Gray also was victorious in the long jump (21-0).

Sherry Newby posted victories in the 110 hurdles (16.89), high jump (5-8) and pole vault (13-6).

In girls, Eagle Point’s Maya Bradd picked up individual wins in the 200 (27.15) and 100 hurdles (17.71), while Lilianne Smith of Ashland registered wins in the shot put (34-5 1/2) and discus (99-6).

ASHLAND 7, ST. MARY’S 1: Rox Rogers got Ashland off to a successful start in the nonconference match at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park

Rogers didn’t lose a game in posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles against Pratheev Weerakoon. Ashland won all four singles matches.

The lone St. Mary’s victory came in No. 3 doubles by Parker Lam and Corin Elmore, who defeated Charlie Burr and Jackson McRae, 6-1, 6-2.
