CENTRAL POINT — When JJ Sargent hit a leadoff double and scored from third in a rundown throwing error, Thurston got off to a quick 1-0 lead against Crater Tuesday in Midwestern League baseball.

After that, the Comets tamed the Colts to just one more hit and no more runs, while the Crater bats unloaded in a 15-1 rout at Anhorn Field.

Jace Godley smacked two two-run home runs and left-hander Larson Kindreich pitched two-hit ball for four innings and added a grand slam as the Comets continued to go unbeaten at 7-0 in the MWL and 11-1 overall.

The game ended after the fifth inning under the 10-run rule.

"It was a high fastball," Godley said of his first blast to the right of the scoreboard in left field in the second inning.

He teed off for his second homer, this time to right, an inning later. Godley, who was 2-for-2, scored four times.

Kindreich shook off the early Thurston run to allow just one more hit, and his fourth-inning slam sealed the win for the Comets.

Kindreich struck out four and didn’t walk anyone.

"Sean (Bartlett) and I worked real well together. We had a good flow going," Kindreich said of his batterymate.

Sebasten Boivin relieved in the fifth inning without giving up a hit.

Crater plated nine runs in the fourth, feasting on Thurston walks, and getting hits from Boivin and Shay Hall before Kindreich belted his slam. Colts pitchers issued nine free passes.

Kindreich, who was 3-for-4, earlier had a two-run single with the bases loaded for a total six RBIs in the game.

Bartlett was 2-for-4 and scored three runs, and Boivin was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

“We’ve had good practices and the kids continue to keep working hard day in and day out,” said Comets coach Jay Campbell.

Crater travels to Springfield Saturday for a doubleheader against the Colts (8-4, 4-3).
