ROSEBURG — South Medford junior Chase Cota turned in a pair of personal records in winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes as the Panthers pulled away from Roseburg for a Southwest Conference track and field victory Wednesday at Roseburg High.

The Panther boys won 11 of the 17 events to outscore the Indians, 88-57, while South Medford’s girls team suffered a 79-64 setback.

Cota claimed the 100 in 11.45 seconds and the 200 in 23.54 seconds and was joined in personal bests by South Medford junior Luke Ramirez in the 800 (2:01.10), freshman Joby Evanow in the 3,000 (9:53.98) and junior Blaine Johnson in the 110 hurdles (15.74).

On the girls side, South Medford got winning PRs by freshman Gabi Wisnovsky in the 800 (2:34.50) and senior Lydia Scott in the 3,000 (10:28.70)

GP GIRLS, NORTH BOYS WIN: At Grants Pass, North Medford senior Anna Lorenz won the 100 hurdles (17.07) and the javelin (118-2) to help propel the Black Tornado girls team to a 75-69 win over host Grants Pass.

North Medford’s boys team won six individual events and the 4x100 relay but fell short against the Cavemen, 86-50.

Turnbull (4-0) struck out seven and walked two for the Pirates (7-3, 1-0 Sky).

Thomas Skaff was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Phoenix, and Sam Datz belted a three-run double in the Pirates’ nine-run third inning.

Phoenix batters walked eight times and were hit by five pitches.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 7, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2: Luke Smith punctuated a three-run sixth inning for Cascade Christian with an inside-the-park home run at U.S. Cellular in the Southern Cascade League opener.

Smith’s second home run of the season, to right-center field, lifted the Challengers to 5-6 overall.

Cascade Christian got the eventual winning run in the fourth, when Jeff Letendre hit a leadoff triple and scored on a fielder’s choice.

Smith, Letendre, Cade Wager and Jack West each had two hits for the Challengers. Letendre pitched five innings of two-hit ball for the win. He struck out four and walked one.

NORTH VALLEY 11, PHOENIX 10: At Merlin, Phoenix pounded out 18 hits, including six for extra bases, but couldn’t stave off North Valley in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams.

Hailie Bowman was 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI, Brooke Kentner 4-for-4 with one RBI and McKenna Page 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI to pace the Pirates (2-6, 0-1 Skyline).

Tiona Hurd also was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs and Courtney Baker 2-for-3 with two runs for Phoenix.

Sydney Grider was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for North Valley (6-5, 1-0).
