COOS BAY — Cascade Christian sophomore Emily Stephens won the high jump, placed second in the 400 meters and helped the Challengers’ 4x100 relay team to first place in track and field action at the 17th annual Prefontaine Rotary Invitational on Saturday.
Stephens cleared 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump, finished in 1 minute, 1.40 seconds for the 400 and was joined by Haley Reed, Zoey Boisen and Amber Cave in taking first at 51.39 in the short relay.
Sarah Johnston was second in the shot put (35-9), Abbey Alexander second in discus (108-3) and Kara Ash second in long jump (16-0¼) to help the Challengers place third overall in the girls standings with 69 points behind Marshfield (104) and Coquille (94).
In the boys meet, Zach Booker won the triple jump in 42-9¾, and the 4x100 relay team of Booker, Levi Ellerbeck, Ben Dunn and John Fralich was third in 45.75.
Cascade Christian tied for 10th in the boys standings at 23.5 points, with Marshfield running away with the title at 117.
SHELDON 5, SOUTH MEDFORD 3: At Eugene, South Medford’s Gray Bastian and Seth Parks edged Sheldon’s Jack Forrest and Paul Laing, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, in a Southwest Conference loss for the Panthers.
South Medford also got a singles win from Luke Parks.
