EUGENE — Adley Rutschman and Michael Gretler each hit home runs to send top-ranked Oregon State to a 6-1 win over Oregon Thursday night in the opening game of a three-game series at PK Park.

The win pushed Oregon State’s record to 39-4 overall and 22-3 in Pac-12 Conference play. With the victory, Oregon State claimed at least a share of the Pac-12 crown and by virtue of series wins over Stanford and UCLA, gained the Pac-12’s automatic bid to the NCAA’s postseason tournament.

Rutschman and Gretler both hit solo home runs in the fourth inning, each posting their second of the season. The homers started off a two-RBI night for both, as Rutschman, who went 3-for-5, singled home a run in the fifth, and Gretler drove home his second via a single in the eighth. Jack Anderson capped off the night’s scoring with a two-run double in the eighth.

Luke Heimlich started for the Beavers, going six innings. The lefty allowed seven hits and a run with seven strikeouts, pushing his record to 8-1. He was backed by Brandon Eisert, who struck out four over three innings to earn his third save of the season.

Cole Stringer, who started for Oregon and allowed both fourth-inning home runs, took the loss after allowing five hits and two runs in four innings. The lefty dropped to 4-2 on the year.

Rutschman tallied his third three-hit game of the season, giving him seven multi-hit efforts on the season. He now also has six multi-RBI games.
