The Medford Rogues rallied to beat the Portland Pickles, 6-5, during Great West League play at Harry & David Field on Wednesday.

Dante Gutierrez hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Rogues (9-5), who trailed 5-4 entering the eighth.

With the game tied at 5, Medford led off the ninth with a double from Clay Valenzuela-Reece. Johnny DeLaCruz put down an infield single before Alex Isola was walked, setting the stage for Gutierrez.

Davis Delorefice went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Valenzuela-Reece was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run and Connor Lowrie 2-for-4 against the Pickles (6-8).

Aaron Hutchinson picked up his first victory of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout.

Rogues starter Jordan Ragan had to be replaced with two outs in the first inning by Chris Painter after experiencing an apparent arm issue. The extent of the injury was unknown as of press time.

American Legion

MEDFORD MUSTANGS 6-9, ROSEBURG DR. STEWART’S 1-2: At Roseburg, Medford piled up 14 hits and got a strong pitching performance from Jacob Melton after first-inning issues to secure an opening-game win in the Area 4 doubleheader at Legion Field.

Melton walked the bases loaded in the first inning but got out of the jam after allowing only one run on a sacrifice fly, then tossed five scoreless innings for Medford (9-1, 4-0 Area 4). In six innings of work, Melton allowed three hits with four walks and six strikeouts. He also was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Tate Cowden, Cole Carder and Brennen Watts each had two hits and one run in Game 1, while James Turnbull was 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In Game 2, Wyatt Baptiste allowed four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a complete-game victory. Nick Sanderson was 3-for-4 with two runs, Joe Johnson 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI and Carder finished 2-for-4 with one run.
