GRANTS PASS — Jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa won four of the afternoon’s first six races — three for trainer Hector Magallanes — on Sunday at Grants Pass Downs.

Gutierrez-Sosa won the first two races of the day with Magallanes’ horses, One Dashing Hawk and I Spot a Cartel, respectfully. Gutierrez-Sosa’s third win for Magallanes, who leads all trainers with nine wins on the season, came in the sixth race where he and Tickle Ur Fancy bagged the $7,080 purse in the Carl Alleman Bonus Challenge.

It was the third straight victory and fourth in its last five starts for Tickle Ur Fancy, which has eight wins in 15 career starts.

Gutierrez-Sosa also won the fifth race with C B Miss, helping him move into second place among jockeys with 12 victories on the season at Grants Pass Downs.

The track’s leading jockey, Jake Samuels, claimed the Miss Josephine County Purse with Keepherrockin, going wire-to-wire to cross the finish line with a five-length lead. It was the 15th time and second straight week the pair teamed up for a win. It was also Keepherrockin’s 22nd career victory and ninth at Grants Pass Downs.

After Keepherrockin’s victory, another of trainer Tim Abraham’s horses, Roaln With Bolen, finished the day with a victory with rider Kassie Guglielmino.

Gutierrez-Sosa nearly had his fifth win of the afternoon and second featured race victory in the OTOBA Summer Series Stakes but jockey Richard Burney rode Racing Ray to get the edge on Gutierrez-Sosa and Rockinatthebar by a neck in the 6½ furlong race.

Racing will continue Tuesday with the season’s big event, the Firecracker Futurity, for the $28,400 purse. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and the first post time is 1 p.m.
