Dylan Wu, of Medford, scorched the course for a 6-under 66 Monday and a berth in the U.S. Amateur golf tournament.

Wu, who recently completed his junior year at Northwestern as the Big Ten’s leading scorer, shot the round at The Village Links of Glen Ellyn in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

It came in his second round of the day. Wu shot a 73 in the first round.

The top three players from a field of 78 to begin the day advanced to the Amateur Aug. 14-20 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Wu’s 36-hole score of 5-under 139 gave him a one-stroke win over Derek Mason, of Plainfield, Illinois. A playoff Tuesday will determine the third player to advance.

Wu’s 66 was one of only seven rounds on the day in the 60s and was the best by two shots.

After an opening round that included four bogeys and three birdies, he was in a large group tied for 15th.

Wu began the second round with consecutive birdies, and added two more to finish the front nine with a 32. He also birdied the 14th and 16th holes in the bogey-free round.
