PORTLAND — The Medford Rogues defeated the Portland Pickles, 7-5, on Saturday to wrap up the regular season as the Great West League champions.

The teams will square off again to open the GWL playoffs at 5:05 p.m. today in Portland. The best-of-three playoff series will return to Medford on Tuesday.

Johnny DeLaCruz was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Connor Lowrie 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Medford (40-20), which finished two games ahead of second-place Chico (38-22).

Portland (31-29) trailed 7-2 before scoring three runs in the eighth.

18A USA FASTPITCH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: At Salem, the Kansas City Rockets beat the 18U Black Tornado, 9-4, to eliminate the Medford squad at Wallace Marine Park.

Taelor Mayben was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Tornado, which led 4-0 before the Rockets pulled away with a five-run fifth inning.

Rylan Austin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run and Lauren Barry was 2-for-4 with two runs.
