TORRANCE, Calif. — Despite stellar work by keeper Wyatt Zabinksi to keep Southern Oregon in the game, 24th-ranked Marymount University stopped the Raiders from breaking into the win column Saturday in a 1-0 decision.
Josep Morego scored the lone goal unassisted in the 67th minute as the Mariners improved to 2-2-1 on the season. Shut out for the fourth time this season, the Raiders went to 0-5 heading into their Cascade Conference opener next Friday at 10th-ranked Rocky Mountain (Mont.).
Zabinksi faced 18 shots on the day and made a season-high eight saves, including five in the scoreless first half.
But the Raiders again struggled to generate any offense, getting off only five shots of their own. Sean McManamon recorded all three of their shots on goal.
DIXIE STATE 4, SOU 0: At Rohnert Park, Calif., Dixie State (Utah) was scoreless through 60 minutes before turning it on.
The Trailblazers (3-1 overall), an NCAA Division II squad, dominated the action throughout and created separation in a hurry with three goals in a six-minute span. Gina Tedrow struck first in the 61st minute, followed by Darian Murdock and Toria Page. Brooklyn Vogelsberg added an exclamation point with just over a minute to go.
Dixie had advantages of 26-3 in shots and 10-0 in corner kicks.
The Raiders (3-2) will face another NCAA Div. II opponent, Sonoma State, Sunday.
