ATHERTON, Calif. — Southern Oregon's Sienna Ramirez and Alejandra Rodriguez both went 3-0 to win their pools on Friday afternoon at the Menlo Open women's wrestling tournament.
The open was largely made up of wrestlers from SOU and Menlo (Calif.), along with a handful of individuals from Umpqua Community College and Pacific University.
Rodriguez, the fourth-ranked 130-pounder in the WCWA, defeated Melanie Cordero and Lizette Young of Menlo by fall. Her other win, over Umpqua's Shayla Sheldon, was a 10-0 technical fall.
Ramirez started with back-to-back technical fall shutouts over Menlo's Brittany Woods-Orrison and Pacific's Janet Silva-Villanueva. She won her last match, an 8-8 decision against Menlo's Angela Peralta, on criteria.
SOU's Olivia Ioppolo won her only match of the day in a 10-0 technical fall over Mikayla Abe. Anesia Ramirez pinned her only two opponents, Bianca Bermejo-Gonzalez of Pacific and unattached Laynee Pasion, but defaulted her final match.
