Cascade Christian senior Joel McLemore was named to the first team of the Class 3A boys basketball all-state squad in voting by the 3A coaches.
McLemore, a 6-foot-2 senior wing, helped guide Cascade Christian to a fourth-place finish in the Class 3A boys basketball state tournament one week ago. He entered the tournament as the Challengers’ leading scorer at 14 points per game after knocking down 46 percent of his field goals to go with 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
McLemore averaged 18.3 points during the state tournament for Cascade Christian (20-10).
The Southern Cascade League champions also saw senior 5-8 point guard Tyler Cochran earn third-team all-state honors after averaging 12.0 points, 5.8 assists, 3.5 steals.
De La Salle North Catholic secured the top 3A honors with senior Emmanuel Reiley named player of the year and James Broadous II named coach of the year.
NORTH WINS STATE: At Bend, the North Medford Black eighth grade boys basketball team completed a 44-0 season in the middle school state championships Sunday, beating Clackamas, 49-43, for the title at the Athletic Club of Bend.
Brandon Dominguez and Bryce Dyer each scored 11 points and Connor Goodrich 10 for North Medford, which rallied from an early 10-point deficit.
There were 42 teams in the eighth-grade tournament.
