100th Birthday: Evelin Winningham Smith
Evelin Winningham Smith will celebrate her 100th birthday Nov. 30, 2021.
Born in Klamath Falls, Evelin graduated high school there participating in drama and art. During her senior year, the manager of the Shakespearean Theatre came to watch her perform at the request of her drama teacher. Afterward he offered her the part of Queen Elizabeth, but because it would have required her to travel to San Francisco, her father would not allow her to take the part.
As a young adult she was working at Manns Department Store, where she met her husband, Ira Smith. They traveled a little bit in the beginning for a logging company and ended up raising their children locally. She was an avid golfer and a charter member at Rogue Valley Country Club for many years.
Being a life-time resident of the Rogue Valley, Evelin is in the know and has the journals to prove it!
Evelin lost her home in the Alameda fire in 2020 and has been residing in Ashland since. She is loved very much and is in constant contact with her beloved family and friends across the globe.
