David and Helen Byers of Central Point celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June with a reception at the home of their friends, Bob and Marla Lance of Central Point.

Seventy-five guests attended, including their maid of honor, Helen's sister, Suzanne Isom, and best man, David's brother, Dean Byers, as well as many family members and friends.

A second celebration was held over the Fourth of July weekend on the San Juan Islands where they own a second home at Friday Harbor.

Activities included a private dinner party at Roche Harbor, a whale-watching tour, the Fourth of July parade and spectacular fireworks.

Attending was their immediate family, son Doug Byers, his wife, Sue and granddaughter, Kaci; daughter Dixie Hockema, her husband, Chuck and granddaughter, Jamie; daughter Dianne Wolff, her husband Dan, and their children, Brandi and Austin. Two grandsons, Zach Byers and Jeff Hockema were unable to attend.

David Byers and Helen Hood were married July 3, 1959, in the Gold Hill Community Methodist Church in Gold Hill. They met while attending Crater High School, where they both graduated.

David's 45-year career was devoted to the food industry in the Rogue Valley from which he retired in 2004 as district manager for Sysco Food Corporation.

Helen was the office manager at Crater High School for 25 years before retiring in 2002.

They are enjoying their retired years spending time with family, camping, and traveling in their motorhome.
