Leif and Marie Ostmo celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 14 with a barbecue at their home in Eagle Point.
They hosted the event with the help of their family and close friends. There were 74 guests attending, including their two sons, Chris (Andrea) of Ashland with their four children and Erik from Portland and his three sons. The best man from the wedding, Kim Stanton (Lin) of Doris Calif., also attended the celebration.
Leif Ostmo married Marie Walters on Aug. 19, 1960, at the Church of God in Ashland.
Leif and Marie have lived in Eagle Point all 50 years of their marriage. Leif was a math teacher and high school administrator for 30 years. Marie was a primary teacher for 30 years in Eagle Point and White City Elementary.
Since retiring 20 years ago, they have been snowbirds, going to Yuma, Ariz., during the winter months after having seen all the fog, snow, and rain they need during their years in Eagle Point.
Leif keeps busy with his woodworking, having built much of their furniture and spends some time golfing. Marie keeps busy doing woodcarving and ceramics. She also attends the Upper Rogue Methodist Church in Shady Cove.
In February Leif and Marie took a cruise on the Mexican Riviera. This was an early celebration of 50 years of marriage.
