Richard "Sonny" and Sandy Falls of Central Point celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 13 with a reception and renewing of their vows at Ruch Community Bible Church.
The event was hosted by their daughters, Tina Richardson and Amy Woodrome, son Corey Falls and daughter-in-law Tamara falls. Their seven grandchildren also helped with the reception.
Sonny Falls married Sandra Bulen Aug. 12, 1961, in Vermilion, Ohio. Sonny joined the Navy in 1962, serving four and a half years. After his boot camp and repairman school, the couple lived in San Diego while Sonny served on a repair ship, the USS Klondike.
Upon his discharge, the couple moved back to Oregon where Sonny worked as a machinist in various jobs throughout the valley. Sonny attended Multnomah Bible College in Portland from 1972 to 1977. After graduation, the couple returned to Southern Oregon where they worked with Youth Trails.
Sandy attended some night classes at Multnomah, but most of the time was a homemaker. She worked part time as a church secretary for almost 30 years and continues in that position today.
On May 20, the couple took a six-week trip for their anniversary to Niagara Falls, where they had gone on their honeymoon. They also did sightseeing, visited family and friends, and attended a USS Klondike reunion in Branson, Mo., with eight men from the ship repair shop where Sonny had served. They had not seen these men in 45 years.
