Jack and Sue Hamilton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 6, with a reception at Medford Friends Church. A movie about the couple's 50 years together was made by their daughter and shown at the reception.
Jack Hamilton married Sue Hopp on Aug. 6, 1961, in Camus, Wash.
Jack was born and raised in the Rogue Valley. He joined the Army in 1961, serving for three years. After his boot camp and band school, the couple lived in Tillicum, Wash., while Jack served in the 21st Army band at Fort Lewis. Upon his discharge, the couple moved back to Oregon, where Jack completed his education, earning a bachelor's degree in music education. Jack taught in the elementary grades for the Medford School District for 24 years.
Sue attended college, earning a degree in elementary education with a media endorsement. She worked in several local libraries before becoming a media assistant with the Medford School District. She is the librarian at Pacific Bible College in Medford.
The couple has planned an anniversary cruise through the Panama Canal in late September. They will be joined by their two daughters, Denise Shadbolt and Paige Wolff, son-in-law George Shadbolt, and sister-in-law Jan Hamilton.
