Don and Edith Carroll were married Jan. 12, 1952, at Saint Rose Catholic Church in Paso Robles, Calif., and the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shady Cove.
During the Mass, Father Theo Lange blessed the marriage. Following the Mass, the congregation was invited to the hall for coffee and cake.
Their daughter, Mary Lynn, and her daughter, Nika, served the cake. Their oldest son, Jim, and his wife, Melanie, of Madras, and Edith's twin sister, Ella, and her husband, Gilbert, of Paso Robles, surprised the couple by attending the Mass. Their sons Bill and wife, Jo Marie, and Don Jr. and wife, Donna, were unable to attend. Don and Edith have nine grandchildren.
Don and Edith moved to Shady Cove 20 years ago to fish the Rogue River and the lakes, and they have been involved in the community and church activities. Don retired from teaching vocational agriculture at King City High School in King City, Calif., and was a member of the Salinas Valley Fair Board for 13 years. Edith spent her time helping with the Red Cross and at the Monterey County Rural Life Museum. Edith and Dawn were named 1990 King City Citizens of the Year.
