Bob and Mary James of Medford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 17, 2012.

Bob James married Mary Savage March 17, 1962, in Central Point. They have two daughters, Susan Thomas of Central Point and Rebecca Sepulveda of Gilroy, Calif., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Because of the couple's busy schedule at the time of their anniversary, they decided to forgo a big celebration and instead enjoyed several dinners with close friends. A trip to Maui is planned for the fall.

Mary graduated from Crater High School in 1960. In her last year at Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls (now Oregon Institute of Technology), she married Bob James. After her graduation, they moved to Sacramento, Calif., where Bob completed his X-ray externship at Sutter General Hospital and Mary worked as a dental assistant. Years later, Mary was co-owner of The Paper People, a paperhanging company, and she also worked as a Harry & David tour guide. Mary was the manager of the Medford Visitor Center for 22 years until she retired in 2007.

Bob was born and raised in Tillamook and graduated from high school in 1958. He attended University of Oregon before attending OTI. After completing his externship, he was hired by Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital, where he worked for 38 years. He began as an X-ray technician and eventually became the regional director of imaging services before retiring in 2001.

In retirement, Bob and Mary keep busy with many activities including church, family and friends, travel and maintaining their country property.
