65th Anniversary: Signa and Jacob Fischer
Signa and Jacob Fischer celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Fountain Plaza with family and friends.
Major Jacob Fischer USAF Ret. and Signa Hannaford met and were married Sept. 11, 1954, in Phoenix, Arizona, when Jacob was in flight training at Williams Air Force Base, and Signa was enrolled at Arizona State University.
They were stationed at many Air Force bases over the years, including in Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Japan and the Washington, D.C. area. They were then transferred to Gunter AFB in Alabama, where Jacob finished his career in civil service. Signa began a 25-year career in real estate.
The couple have four children: Jay Fischer (Junko) of Medford; Sharon Fischer of Eagle Point; Glenn Fischer (Destiney) of Eagle Point; and Steve Fischer (Diana) of Huntsville, Alabama. Three of their children graduated from Auburn University and one joined the Air Force.
When Jacob retired they lived in Brookings for 23 years and then moved to the Rogue Valley.
Jacob was president of the Brookings Senior Center and drove for the Disabled Vets. Signa was a Soroptomist member for 25 years and volunteered for many other organizations.
They both keep very busy with their four children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
