Mustangs avenge loss to Fairfield, 10-2

The Medford Mustangs got a bit of revenge in American Legion baseballTuesday at Miles Field.

The Mustangs, who have won 18 of 20 games to begin the season, defeateda team responsible for one of those loses.

The Mustangs used home runs by Shawn Walker and Brian Fachet and effectivepitching by Jed Johnson to pin a 10-2 loss on Fairfield Sonoma Concreteof Nothern California.

The Mustangs (18-2, 4-0 Zone 4) will get an opportunity to avenge itssecond loss in a Zone 4 doubleheader today against the Klamath Falls Falcons.The twinbill is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Miles Field.

Medford scored early and often against Fairfield, in contrast to the3-2 loss to the Concrete in the Dr. Stewart's Invitational on Friday. Inthe earlier contest, Medford held a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of theseventh, but Fairfield rallied for three runs in the final stanza. Fairfieldwent on to win the eight-team tournament.

On Tuesday, The Mustangs opened the scoring in the first on a doubleby Alex Chavez and Kevin Follett's RBI single.

After Fairfield scored two runs without a hit in the third inning, ShawnWalker gave Medford the lead for good with a three-run homer in the bottomof the inning.

The Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth when Brian Fachet followedFollett's triple with a home run.

Medford banged out 16 hits, with Matt Chubb and Follett accounting forthree each and Fachet and Walker chipping in a pair of hits apiece.

Johnson limited Fairfield to three hits and allowed only one earned runfor this third victory without a loss.

NORTH JACKSON ROYALS 4-11, SOUTH MEDFORD COLTS 2-6 ­ At Eagle Point,North Jackson (15-5, 7-3 Division) scored the go-ahead runs in the fifthinning of both games of an American Legion A doubleheader sweep over SouthMedford at The Yard.

In Game 1, Carlos Stevenson reached base on an error to begin the fifthand Scott Roberts singled. Stevenson eventually scored on a passed balland Roberts scored on a wild pitch.

South Medford rallied from a 6-0 deficit in the second game with a six-runoutburst in the fourth inning. Royals pitcher Brad Milam had a no-hitterentering the fourth but walked the first three batters. The Royals answeredin the fifth on RBI singles by Byron Boyd, Scott Roberts and Paul Brewer.
