Lara's double boosts TJs, 5-4
EUGENE Eddie Lara only had one hit Thursday night against the EugeneEmeralds, but it was a big one.
Lara's two-out, run-scoring double in the 10th inning lifted the SouthernOregon Timberjacks to a 5-4 victory at Civic Stadium.
The win gave the Timberjacks their third victory in the five-game serieswith the Emeralds and kept Southern Oregon tied for first with Portlandin the Northwest League South Division.
The Timberjacks began a two-out rally in the 10th when leadoff hitterRodney Clifton singled. After Mike Koerner walked, Lara hit a high chopperoff third baseman Mike Terhune's glove and Clifton scored from second asthe ball rolled in foul territory down the left field line.
Timberjacks winning pitcher Jared Jensen worked the last two inningsto pick up his first victory of the season.
Southern Oregon third baseman Adam Piatt had his streak of five homeruns in five games come to an end, even though the Mississippi State Universityproduct hit a long fly out in the fifth inning.
The Timberjacks had to come back early from deficits of 1-0 and 3-1.
Adam Robinson's two-out, RBI double in the third tied the game at 1-1.
After the Emeralds grabbed a 3-1 lead, Southern Oregon answered withtwo runs in the fourth to knot the score again. Singles by Piatt, Farrisand Javier Flores accounted for one run. Robinson followed a walk to HipolitoMartinez with an RBI single to tie the game 3-3.
Southern Oregon took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning whenLara walked, stole second and scored on Farris' single. Piatt hit a driveabout seven feet from the wall for a long out prior to Farris' run-producinghit.
The Timberjacks open a five-game series tonight at Spokane. SouthernOregon left-hander Jason Anderson (1-1) will go to the mound in the openinggame.
