TJs start series with a 10-4 loss

SPOKANE ­ Two poor innings were costly to the Southern Oregon TimberjacksFriday night at Seafirst Stadium.

The Spokane Indians opened the five-game series with a 10-4 victory overSouthern Oregon.

The Indians capitalized on a five-run fifth inning and a four-run rallyin the eighth to defeat the Timberjacks.

Joe Caruso sparked the Indians with a triple during both uprisings.

Southern Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Rodney Clifton doubled,moved to third on Mike Koerner's flyout and scored on the first of two sacrificeflies by Eddie Lara.

Juan LeBron's leadoff home run tied the game at — in the Indians' halfof the fifth.

But Spokane was far from finished.

Dave Willis followed with a double, then pitcher Jason Anderson committeda throwing error on Rod Metzler's bunt, allowing Willis to score. CarlosPagan reached on a fielder's choice when Metzler got caught in a rundown,Rico Montas doubled and Goefrey Tomlinson knocked Anderson out of the gamewith a two-run double.

Joe Caruso greeted Timberjacks reliever Marcus Jones with an RBI tripleto complete the rally.

In the seventh, Ed Farris doubled with two outs and Jose Figueroa followedwith a double to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Spokane got the run back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Timberjacksput up two more runs in the eighth to close the gap to 6-4.

Any hopes for a Timberjacks comeback were dashed in the eighth when Spokanescored four runs with two outs. Tomlinson's RBI double and Caruso's run-scoringtriple keyed the rally.
