Timberjacks rally to claim 10-inning win

SPOKANE, Wash. ­ The Southern Oregon Timberjacks overcame an eight-rundeficit and two coaching ejections on Sunday to post a 10-inning, 14-13victory over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League action.

The Timberjacks (17-15) remain one game behind first-place Port-landin the South Division standings.

The Indians took what looked to be an insurmountable 8-0 lead after twoinnings. Spokane had a seven-run second inning behind two-run home runsby Joe Caruso and Doug Blosser off Southern Oregon starter Chris Gorrell.

The Timberjacks cut the lead to 8-7 with a four-run fifth inning. Afterback-to-back two-out walks to Adam Piatt and Ed Farris, Hipolito Pichardohit an RBI single. Ron Tegland followed with an RBI double off Indian relieverDon Quigley, followed by Nicholas Sosa's two-run single.

With Sosa on second base, Quigley uncorked a wild pitch, but when Sosatried to score from second and was called out on a close play at the plate,home plate umpire Steve Cox ejected Timberjacks first base coach Randy Elliott.

Caruso opened the sixth for Spokane with his second home run of the gameto give his team a 9-7 lead.

The lead would be short-lived, however, as Tegland tied the score inthe seventh with a two-run homer of his own.

Southern Oregon pitching coach Steve Bowden became the second memberof the staff to take an early shower when he was tossed for ar-guing a balkcall on reliever Andy Kimball.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Timberjacks scored four runs high-lightedby a two-run homer by Adam Robinson and an RBI single by Farris. Spokaneanswered right back for four runs of its own on a two-run double by JuanLeBron and two more runs on passed balls.

In the 10th inning, Southern Oregon took the lead for good when Piattscored on a wild pitch by Justin Lamber.

Spokane tried to push the contest into another extra frame, but SouthernOregon right fielder Hipolito Martinez turned Francisco Bautista's potentialRBI single into an out, when he gunned down Rico Montas at the plate toend the game.

Tegland led the Timberjacks with three hits and three RBIs, while Robinson,Sosa and Martinez each had two hits apiece.

Jared Jensen picked up his second win of the season in relief, whileRico Lagattuta picked up his first save.
