Another par 4 aced by golfer
WHITE CITY The assault on the par 4s at Stone Ridge Golf Club continues.
Gary Wellbaum, 44, of Talent, became the second player in 2 1/2 weeksto score a hole-in-one on a par 4 at Stone Ridge, when he aced the 365-yard17th hole from the blue tees with a driver.
Earlier in the month, Don Gifford made a hole-in-one on the par-4 fourthhole.
Wellbaum, who carries a 6 handicap, was playing a match-play tournamentagainst Tim Mort when the improbable double-eagle occurred.
Mort had already beaten Wellbaum — and 2 after the 16th hole, but thetwo decided to finish out the final two holes on the course.
We decided to play on and he challenged me to go for it,said Wellbaum, who normally hits an iron off the tee on the downhill holewith a sharp dogleg to the left. I know I made it, but it's stillhard to believe.
Wellbaum first thought the ball was lost.
I was already heading for my bag to get another ball, saidWellbaum. When I was digging out another ball, Tim went to the holeand found mine. I was in disbelief.
It was his third ace in 32 years of golf.
