Crater's King sets course record

CENTRAL POINT -- Crater senior Max King shaved 19 seconds off the courserecord Thursday as the Comets defeated traditional powers Ashland and Roseburgin a three-way Southern Oregon Conference cross country meet.

King covered the 5,000-meter Jackson County Expo course in 16 minutes,23 seconds, obliterating former Mazama runner Ted Adkins' 1996 mark of 16:42.King finished 1:13 ahead of runner-up Kassidy Lane of Ashland.

Crater placed three runners in the top six to score 33 points, whileAshland had 37 and Roseburg 54.

Ashland's girls sailed to victory with 26-point total, while Roseburghad 39 and Crater 62.

Crater's Jill Salmon edged Ashland's Anita Sindelar by less than three-10thsof a second for first. But the Grizzlies placed four runners in the topsix to nail down the victory.

Salmon was clocked in 19:45.13 and Sindelar in 19:45.39.

KLAMATH UNION ROMPS -- At Klamath Falls, Defending state champion JeremyPark led a 1-2-3 finish as the Klamath Union boys outgunned Grants Pass,Mazama and Henley at Mazama.

Park edged teammate Ian Dobson, 17:06-17:07, for first place in the 5,000-meterrace as the Pelicans grabbed five of the top seven spots.

Brady Lukkari beat teammate Elizabeth Lindgren by a minute as KlamathUnion's girls eased to victory. Lukkari was clocked in 20:13.

NORTH DOUGLAS INVITATIONAL -- At Drain, Martina Patella and April Stricklandfinished 2-3 to help St. Mary's girls to victory with 23 points, while CanyonvilleBible Academy and Glendale had incomplete teams scores.

Glendale's Lisa Harrison came in first with a time of 19:24.

In the boys event, Trevor Coolidge finished third and Josh Purkeypilefourth as the Crusaders finished third in the four-team field.

Loy Gates posted a winning time of 16:24 to help North Douglas capturethe team victory.

Coolidge finished with a mark of 16:58, while Purkeypile trailed 28 secondsbehind.
