Chieftains overpower St. Mary's

Rogue River scored 32 unanswered points in the second half to defeatSt. Mary's 38-0 in non-league football Saturday night at Spiegelberg Stadium.

The Chieftains, a Class 3A team from the Skyline Conference, led just6-0 at halftime before quarterback Casey Cunningham and running back TonyRoberts took control of the game.

We just ran out of gas, said St. Mary's coach Dick Maurer,whose team fell to 0-2. It was a great game until the third quarter,but we just couldn't keep up with them.'

Maurer cited St. Mary's players J.P. Naumes, Nic Patella and Rick Gibsonas having good games.

We stepped it up and played, but we just didn't have the manpower,said Maurer. We're young, green and growing, but Rogue River reallyplayed well.

St. Mary's will open its Big Fir schedule next Saturday when it hostsRiddle at Spiegelberg Stadium.
