From staff reports

YREKA, Calif. -- South Medford didn't win any individual titles at Saturday'sTimberline Bank Cross Country Invitational, but Panthers coach Bill Rowanwasn't complaining.

Eagle Point junior John Lucas was the boys' individual winner, whileAshland freshman sensation Paris Edwards came away with the girls' title.

Lucas covered the 5,000 meter course in a time of 15 minutes, 51 seconds, just 10 seconds off Jim Frey's 15-year-old course record. Edwards finishedwith a mark of 15:19 in the girls' 4,000-meter race.

He (Custance) ran a smart race against some pretty good kids,Rowan said. He didn't go out with Lucas. He kept his head about him.
