Tornado rumbles to 11-0 win over Grants Pass
GRANTS PASS -- Dick Darcy never goes into a soccer match thinking thathis team will blow out the opponent. But that's exactly what happened Tuesdayafternoon.
Dolinda Meeker scored three goals, Bethanie Bryant tallied two and sixother players scored one as the North Medford Black Tornado girls racedto an 11-0 victory over Grants Pass in the Southern Oregon Conference openerfor both teams.
They gave us a tough match last year and I was expecting anotherone today, Darcy said. But we got on a roll in the second halfand wore them out.
The defending SOC champion Tornado led just 3-0 at the intermission beforeturning on the afterburners.
Heather Johnson, Jamie Ryder, Ashlee Giles, Lu Crenshaw, Anna Clark andTenille Bennett also connected for the Tornado, which ran its record to6-1.
North Medford outshot Grants Pass 44-2.
ASHLAND 3, ROSEBURG 2, OT -- At Roseburg, Melissa Keevil's goal fiveminutes into overtime helped Ashland to victory.
Lauren Fisher scored two goals for the Grizzlies. The first one in thefourth minute of the first half and her second came in the second half,eventually sending the game into overtime.
Billie Tarasico and Marisa Moller scored goals for the Indians.
MAZAMA 3, EAGLE POINT 0 -- At Klamath Falls, Sarah Guetzloe scored herfourth goal in four games in the SOC match.
The Vikings led 2-0 at halftime.
Mindy Bishop opened the scoring at the 26th minute with an assist fromKrissy Young. Guetzloe made it 2-0 on an assist from Mary Mills eight minuteslater.
Krissy Young got her second assist of the match at the 61st minute whenher sister Dena scored the Vikings' final goal.
Eagle Point sophomore Stephanie Lucas had to leave the game with an injurywith about 15 minutes remaining in the game and didn't return.
Mazama had five corner kicks to one for the Eagles.
ROGUE RIVER 3, NORTH VALLEY 0 -- At Merlin, Liz Lewis had a goal andan assist in the non-league game matching District 6 foes.
Lewis assisted on the game's opening score by Casey Peete at the ninthminute.
Lewis converted one minute into the second half off a feed by Cari Costello.
Erica Galer completed the scoring unassisted at the 55th minute.
Rogue River goalie's Sarah Zempel and Cory Orton combined for the shutout.
