Panthers rout Roseburg

ROSEBURG -- The South Medford girls soccer team scored three goals inthe first 17 minutes of the game and ran off with a 6-0 win over Roseburgon Tuesday in Southern Oregon Conference play.

Anna Bartlett scored in the fifth minute with an assist by Iris Noack.Four minutes later Megan Sharp tagged on a goal, finishing off a cornerkick delivered by Noack.

Sonja Miller took the ball up the middle and delivered a shot from outsidethe 18-yard mark to make the score 3-0 by the 17th minute.

Sophomore Tiffany Mason added a goal with the assist from a corner kickby Miller in the 38th minute.

One minute later Mason crossed over to Shelley Schilz to make the lastgoal of the half.

The pace slowed down a bit in the second half, but freshman Abby Fowlerfinished the game off with a deflected ball originally shot by Marissa Gillingham.

Panther coach Dave Potter was proud of the way his team played together.

We took control and didn't let up, said Potter. Wemade a great win out of it..

The win gives South Medford a 2-0 conference record and an overall markof 4-3.

MAZAMA 2, CRATER 0 -- At Central Point, a much improved Comets team hadits hopes for victory squelched by Mazama.

The Vikings (2-0) took a 1-0 first-half when Krissy Young scored offan assist from Sarah Guetzloe.

The Comets, who outshot Mazama 17-13, had their chances to even the score,but Katie Cummings' goal for the Vikings in the 70th minute put the contestout of reach.

Crater fell to 0-1 in its SOC opener, but welcomed back the servicesof midfielder Alina Torrey, who has been out with a bout of pneumonia.

GRANTS PASS 1, EAGLE POINT -- At Eagle Point, a Grants Pass goal in the36th minute of the first half thwarted the Eagles' hopes of a third straightwin over a Class 4A club.

Eagle Point, which outshot the Cavers 7-4, fell to 0-2 in league and3-3-1 overall.

KLAMATH UNION 4, HENLEY 0 -- At Klamath Falls, Klamath Union proved toostrong for Class 3A Henley in non-league action.

Goals by Summer Stewart, Jennifer Ostrick and Jennifer Beggs helped KlamathUnion to a 3-0 halftime cushion.

Dana Buchanan scored for the Pelicans in the second half.
