MONMOUTH -- The Southern Oregon University volleyball team moved intothe semifinals of the Cascade Conference tournament with a 5-15, 15-10,15-4, 3-15, 15-9 victory over eighth-ranked Northwest Nazarene on Fridayat Western Oregon University.

The Raiders will face Western Oregon today at 11 a.m. The winner takeson Western Baptist for the tournament crown.

The tournament champion advances to nationals, but Southern Oregon coachPaul Elliott believes the Raiders are in line for an at-large berth if theydon't win.

Earlier on Friday, Southern Oregon fell to Western Oregon 15-10, 15-5,15-12 in the first round of the double-elimination tournament.

Against Northwest Nazarene, the Raiders used a gutsy performance fromRoseburg's Misti-Kae Filley to keep their championship hopes alive.

Filley, hobbled by a bad back, reeled off 19 kills and 22 digs to pacethe Raiders (25-8).

She was coming down and grimacing in pain, said Elliott. She was having a hard time for sure. I'd say gutsy was the word. Ihad to ask her father if playing her was the right thing to do.

Casie Ireland chipped in with a career-high 31 digs for the Raiders, who rallied for a 5-3 deficit in Game — against NNC.

We're pretty banged up right now, said Elliott. I'mreally proud of the way they played. I think it was a mind over matter thing.

Going into today's semifinal match, Elliott feels his team's earlierloss to Western Oregon won't hamper the Raiders' chances.

It wasn't a loss that really bruised our egos, he said. Weknow we can beat them. It just wasn't the right time. I think tomorrow isthe right time to knock them off.
