Raider hoopers claim title

ASHLAND -- The fourth-ranked Southern Oregon University women's basketballteam forced 36 turnovers and held on for a 56-48 victory over Humboldt Stateto win the Stratford Inn Tournament title at McNeal Pavilion on Saturday.

The Raiders (2-0), who led by 16 points on four different occasions inthe second half, held off a late Lumberjacks run that pulled them within52-48 with 1:16 remaining.

But senior guard Megan Winchester converted four clutch free throws inthe final two minutes to preserve the victory.

Southern Oregon players Michelle Westerberg, Nada Janackovic and WendiLamb were named to the all-tournament team. Westerberg was honored as thetournament's MVP.
