EP ends Cavemen's playoff hopes

EAGLE POINT -- As far as the Grants Pass Cavemen were concerned, the Eagle Point boys basketball team picked a poor time to snap its four-game Southern Oregon Conference losing streak.

Nick Rouhier scored all 19 of his points in the first and fourth quarters and led the Eagles to a 57-51 victory that eliminated Grants Pass from playoff contention.

He got us off to a good start and finished strong for us, said Eagles coach Keith Williams.

Eagle Point's skid began with a narrow defeat against Mazama followed by blowout losses to South Medford, Crater and Klamath Union.

It's kind of like the wheels had been coming off early, said Williams. We didn't perform very well or with much enthusiasm. But we responded well tonight.

Eagle Point led by three going into the fourth quarter and hit 7 of 10 free-throw attempts in the final period -- including 6 of 8 by Rouhier -- to seal the win.

Obie Strickler had 24 and Trent Thompson 12 for the Cavemen, who had just four players score in the game.
