Battazzo leads EP to victory

EAGLE POINT -- Beth Battazzo struck nine and walked one en route to tossing a five-inning no-hitter as Phoenix drilled Eagle Point, 14-0, Monday in a non-conference softball contest.

The Eagles committed six errors in losing their season debut, while Phoenix improved to 3-2. Battazzo was 19-9 for the Pirates a year ago.

Phoenix scored five runs in the first inning, taking advantage of six walks and two errors. Battazzo, who was 3-for-4, smacked the only hit of the inning.

Michelle McElroy added two hits and scored three runs for the Pirates.

ROSEBURG TRIUMPHS -- At White City, Pat Anderson's 8-over-par 78 led Roseburg to victory in a four-way meet on a blustery day at StoneRidge Golf Club.

The Indians topped runner-up Klamath Union 323-336, while host Crater was five strokes back at 341. Paul Peterson paced the Comets with a 79.
