Sleezer beaten at nationals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A difficult draw brought a quick exit for Medford's Sam Sleezer in the National USA Boxing Championships.

Sleezer, in just his 17th fight, drew highly touted Darrvol Williamson of Atlanta in the opening round of the single-elimination event. Williamson is the ranked No. — in the light heavyweight division, according to Bulldog Boxing owner Joe Pedrojetti.

He's one of only two U.S. fighters ranked in the world and we got him, said Pedrojetti, who added that the event is not seeded.

Sleezer had success in the first round of the bout, cutting Williamson. But an solid uppercut and a couple of combinations in the second round led to a standing eight-count for Sleezer and moments later Bulldog coach Ernie Johnson Sr. stopped the fight.
