Ashland's Cropper takes three events

PREP ROUNDUP

ASHLAND -- Taylor Cropper had an impressive beginning to the track season Tuesday.

The Ashland High junior won three events, including a lifetime best in the 110-meter high hurdles, during the 10-team non-scoring meet at Ashland High.

Cropper also triumphed in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and set a meet record in the 200 intermediate hurdles (26.1 seconds).

Ashland junior Nick Bakke posted a personal best and set a meet record in the javelin with a throw of 187 feet, 8 inches. Bakke also won the shot put (46-1) and finished second in the discus.

In girls action, Lakeview's Kelli Holloway was the outstanding performer with two victories in field events. Holloway, who placed second in the shot put at last year's Class 3A state meet, set a meet record in her specialty with a toss of 38-7. The Lakeview senior won the discus at 111-5.

The Grizzlies received some good early season performances from two freshmen. Jessica Bullen placed first in the triple jump (30-8) and second in the long jump (15-2 1/4), while Megan Cotton set a school record in winning the 200 hurdles with a time of 30.9.
