Crater bowlers take 7th

The Crater boys and girls bowling teams rolled their way to seventh-place finishes at the Oregon State High School Bowling Championship on March 14-15 at Salem's Firebird Lanes.

Springfield's Thurston High won the girls team title, while the Gladstone High boys were crowned state champions.

The Crater girls squad, which won state crowns in 1995 and 1996, was as high as fourth place at one point in the tournament before running out of steam.

The Crater boys were paced by team captain Robert Gibson, who rolled the tournament's high game with a 270. Gibson also rolled two 600 series at the event.

Girls team members included Erin Medina, Ashleigh Austin, Kari Poole and Johannah Smith.

The boys team consisted of Gibson, Travis Daniels, Brandon Schollenburg, Matt Conklin, Michele Rutigliano, Blake Daniels and Casey Kelley.
