arena will open again on Oct. 5

The Valley Floor Sports Arena will reopen Oct. 5 for adult indoor soccer leagues, rock climbing and arena football.

The sports arena, which opened in April 1997, has been closed during the summer months. Located at 886 Chevy Way, Medford, it offers the largest indoor soccer field in the Northwest and the largest rock climbing gym in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

Registrations are now being accepted for adult soccer teams. Men's leagues will be established in Division I (competitive), ages 18 and over, to be played on Friday and Saturday nights; Division II (semi-competitive), ages 18 and over, Mondays and Wednesdays; Division III (recreational), ages 30 and over, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Women's leagues, all open to ages 18 and older, will be established in Division I (competitive), to be played Tuesdays; Division II (recreational), Mondays and Wednesdays; and Division III (casual), Thursdays and Fridays.

Soccer referees also are being sought. They will be paid $12 per game. If interested in refereeing, please call 772-7377.

Team registration forms are available at Cascade Athletic Supply, Sims Cycle and Fitness, Mail Boxes Etc. (South Gateway), Medford Parks and Recreation Department, Viking Pools and Cedar Links Golf Course.

records ace at the Meadows

Dick Niedermeyer of Central Point sank a hole-in-one at Stewart Meadows Golf Course Wednesday, the second ace at the course in two days.

Niedermeyer, 69, made his first hole-in-one in 51 years of golfing on the 141-yard No. 7 hole. He used a 5-iron.

Dave Kaup hit a hole-in-one on No. 7 on Tuesday.

Interestingly, Bill Branham was a playing partner of both men and witnessed both shots.

, Baker win in Laurel Hill golf

Mike Shine and Brett Baker took individual honors in the Men's Twilight League at Laurel Hill Golf Course.

Shine won the gross title and Baker the net championship.
