Don Mitchell and Ron Frum teamed to win the 2-man best-ball Senior Tour tournament Wednesday at StoneRidge Golf Club.

Mitchell and Frum combined to post a 72 for the top gross score in the First Flight, finishing just one stroke ahead of Rob Robbins and Dave Bremer, who finished second at 73.

Neil Reamann and Bob Martin shot a 75 for the top gross score in the second flight, with Gene McDaniels and Carl Belcher combining for a 76.

rolls season's first 700 at Roxy Ann

Judy Mostella rolled her first-ever 700 series Wednesday morning during play in the Majorette Scratch League at Roxy Ann Lanes in Medford.

Mostella, of Central Point, bowled a 222 in her first game and then posted a 249 and a 235 for a 706 series -- the first 700 series of the season at Roxy Ann Lanes.

Mostella rolled 20 strikes out of a possible 36.

scramble Oct. 23 at StoneRidge

The Super Seniors 2-man Scramble, for players 60 and older, will be Oct. 26 at StoneRidge Golf Club.

Cost is $30 per player, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

swim meet starts tonight

ASHLAND -- The Shakespeare Invitational Swim Meet is scheduled today through Sunday at the Southern Oregon University Pool in McNeal Hall.

The event, featuring swimmers from 6 to 18, is hosted by the Superior Aquatics Booster Association.

About 250 swimmers from Eugene, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Roseburg, Salem, Coos Bay, North Bend and Forest Grove will compete against the Superior team.

Timed finals begin at 5:30 tonight. Competition resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

gymnastics event slated Oct. 24 at YMCA

ASHLAND -- A level 4-6 gymnastics meet involving 14 teams and 137 girls is scheduled Oct. 24 at the Ashland YMCA, 540 YMCA Way.

Teams from Ashland, Medford, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and Coos Bay will be joined by competitors from as far south as Sacramento and as far north as Portland.

The first session starts at 11 a.m. and the second at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
