Raiders' rally comes up shy

PORTLAND -- Southern Oregon University clawed its way back into a Cascade Conference volleyball match against Concordia College Friday after dropping the first two games, but the Raiders failed to complete the comeback.

Concordia held on to beat Southern Oregon, 15-8, 15-11, 7-15, 6-15 and 15-5.

They played great defense and dug a lot of balls, Southern Oregon coach Paul Elliott said. They seemed to have more heart and wanted it more.

The Raiders defeated Concordia in three straight games at home earlier in the season.

Southern Oregon's two big hitters -- Susan Rodinsky and Nola Miller -- struggled in the match. Rodinsky had a team-high 24 kills but committed 12 hitting errors.

After knotting the match at two games apiece, Southern Oregon fell behind 11-0 in the final game.

Southern Oregon is 9-3 in league play, Concordia 9-4.
