GLENDALE -- Something had to give in the Big Fir League girls matchup Saturday between league unbeatens Glendale and Cascade Christian.

Host Glendale proved to have too much balance and chalked up a 79-66 victory to take over sole possession of first place.

The Pirates ended Cascade's six-game winning streak, including five in a row in the Big Fir.

The difference in the game was on the boards, Cascade Christian coach Loren King said. I'm not sure what the exact stats were, but I'd guess they had 15 more rebounds than us.

Both teams' big scorers balanced each other out. Glendale senior wing Rebecca Bresnan and junior guard Crystal Tait of Cascade Christian each scored 26 points.

Rebecca is just a solid all-around player, King said. She's an underrated player in our league. She does everything well.

Sophomore post Christine McCandless bolstered the Challengers' attack with 13 points and eight rebounds.

We played a little rat ball occasionally and you can't do that against a good team, said King. They had the shots go down when they needed it and we didn't.
