Anderson's heroics lift Chiefs

Rogue River girls top Yoncalla, 40-39

ROGUE RIVER -- Michelle Anderson picked a fine time to knock down the lone 3-pointer of the night Friday.

With the score tied at 37 in the final minute of action, Anderson's bomb gave Rogue River all the cushion it would need as the Chieftains edged Yoncalla, 40-39, in a non-conference battle.

Michelle gets the game ball in this one, Rogue River coach Dan Mortinson said. She really came through when we needed her.

Anderson scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter to help keep Rogue River (3-0) perfect on the season.

Mindi Yost and Shae Wright each scored 10 points to pace the Chieftains, with Yost adding nine rebounds, four blocks, four assists and two steals.

Rogue River managed a seven-point lead heading into the fourth, only to have Yoncalla's Maranda Brownson come alive to score six of her game-high 16 points to open the period.

Yoncalla had a final chance at victory in the waning seconds, only to have a desperation, 30-foot shot rim in and out at the buzzer.

It was a wild one, Mortinson said. We've always had good games with them. The last few years they've been decided by two points or less.
