Raiders frolick to 111-57 win

ASHLAND -- Denise Berry made the most of her playing time in Southern Oregon's 111-57 blowout victory over Patten College in the opening round of the four-team Stratford Inn Tournament Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.

The second-ranked Raiders (9-1) advance into today's championship game at 7:30 p.m. against Dominican College of San Rafael, Calif., which defeated Warner Pacific 91-48. The consolation game begins at 5:30 p.m.

Berry only played 24 minutes but contributed 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Raiders grabbed a commanding 57-29 halftime lead.

(Berry) just had some real strong post moves, Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett said, and she was 10-of-10 from the free-throw line and that helped.

Berry's front-court mate Nada Janackovic added 18 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Phoenix High product Ali Richards dished out a career-high 11 assists.

Southern Oregon registered its fourth straight victory by placing six players in double-figures. It was SOU's third-highest scoring game in school history and the 54-point margin of victory was the most since the Raiders toppled Bethany College, 104-28 last December.
