gains more honors in volleyball

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Tosha Barnicoat continues to gain acclaim at Southern Mississippi, recently named as one of 12 players to the AVCA All-District VI volleyball team.

The selection comes after an outstanding season which saw Barnicoat become the first Southern Mississippi volleyball player to be named first team all-Conference USA and twice named the conference player of the week.

The former North Medford High standout led Southern Miss in kills with 483 and digs with 478, and became the first Southern Miss player to be named to the all-district team.

With the honor, Barnicoat is in contention for one of 12 spots on the AVCA All-American volleyball team.

, Thomas team to win stableford event

Walt Clark and Owen Thomas teamed to win the First Flight competition in Wednesday's two-man best ball stableford golf event at StoneRidge Golf Club.

Clark and Thomas combined to post 42 points, barely edging the team of Dave Bremer and Rob Robbins (38).

Lee Hopkins and John Williams won the Second Flight competition with 56 points.

to speak at Duck Club meeting

The Southern Oregon Duck Club will meet today at the DoubleTree Hotel in Medford.

The luncheon will start at noon. Oregon head football coach Mike Bellotti will talk about the Ducks' Aloha Bowl game against Colorado on Christmas Day in Honolulu.

spins an 807 series at Roxy Ann Lanes

Ron Fristoe of Medford bowled his first 800 series in honor of his 57th birthday Wednesday at Roxy Ann Lanes.

I'm a really happy camper, Fristoe said. I've been looking forward to this day for a long time.

Fristoe, who started bowling in 1961, began the day with a 205 average and bowled a 270-279-258 for an 807 series, the Rogue Valley Bowling Assication's first 800 series of the year.
