Lakeview tops North Valley in key double dip

Prep roundup

MERLIN -- Lakeview tidied things up a bit in the top half of the Skyline Conference baseball standings with a doubleheader sweep of North Valley, 12-1 and 11-6, on Friday.

The Honkers and the Knights went into the day hoping to break up the traffic jam for third between the two of them and Phoenix.

Lakeview accomplished just that in improving its Skyline record to 10-4.

Corey Sedlacek had eight strikeouts and scattered four hits with no walks to win the opener for the Honkers.

Sedlacek was in the zone, said North Valley coach Mike Reese. He kept us off balance the entire game.

Chad Longacre and Robert Havely each homered in the first game for Lakeview and finished with three hits apiece.

Teammate Mitchell Brown added a solo shot in the seventh to complete the offensive attack.

North Valley jumped on the Honkers early in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first inning behind timely hitting from Jeff Reese and Chris Ordner.

The Knights held a 4-1 lead into the fourth before the roof caved in.

We finally started hitting the ball in the second game, said Mike Reese. But we left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings without any runs to show for it.

Lakeview batted around for seven runs in the decisive fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

Jeff Reese reached base seven times on the afternoon for North Valley, picking up three hits in four plate appearances. Ordner had three hits in the second game while teammate Scott Butterbaugh added a home run for the Knights (11-6, 8-6 Skyline).
