Hage's fourth-place toss makes SOU discus history
CHICO, Calif. -- Nels Hage moved into fourth place on Southern Oregon's all-time men's discus list Saturday when he placed fourth with a 163-foot, 8-inch effort in the Chico State Invitational.
Hage moved past Paul Steenkollk, fourth in the NAIA nationals last year with a best of 160-8. Hage's top mark coming in was 160-7.
Mat Davis turned in a pair of fine efforts in winning the 200 (21.96) and 400 (48.23), while Bob Metcalf whirled the hammer 167-1.
In women's competition, Alison Garich registered the second-best mark by a Cascade Collegeiate Conference 1,500 runner this spring with a 4:57.57 effort that was good for third. Her previous best was 5:14.0
Tiwanna Merritt won the 100 (12.62), 200 (25.38) and ran the lead leg on the winning 400 relay. She also long jumped 16-6, good for fourth place.
Kena Page, Laura Lincoln and Erica Harris joined Merritt in posting a 49.27 mark. Harris was second in the 200 (25.78) and 400 (57.21). Page won the long jump with a 17-5 leap and triple jumped a career-best 35-4 for second place. Lincoln won the 100 hurdles in 16.07. Nikki Robertson registered season's bests, finishing second, in the shot put (39-0) and discus (134-5).
