North nets perfect tennis season

North Medford completed its first unbeaten dual season in girls tennis Thursday with an 8-1 Southern Oregon Conference victory over South Medford at District Courts.

The Black Tornado finished 10-0 in the SOC and 14-0 overall.

Near the end it was like `we don't want to lose it,' said North Medford coach Dale Jensen. It was a very good accomplishment, especially since we didn't go with our best lineup every time. It helped the younger kids because it spurred them on to compete better. It brought out the best in everybody.

In No. — singles, junior Stephanie Cohee registered South Medford's lone victory and in doing so probably secured a top-five seed in the SOC district tournament May 14 at District Courts.

Jensen was particularly pleased with the performance of his No. 2 doubles team of Carrie Brown and April Louie, who defeated Amber Gerrard and Danielle Perone 6-3 and 7-6.

Brown and Louie have been playing in the No. — and 4 spots most of the season, but were moved up against South.

They beat a very good team, said Jensen. They just played together real well.
